SSPCA releases distressing image of seal tangled in discarded rubbish on Aberdeenshire coast

A Scottish animal charity has shared a distressing image of a seal tangled in discarded rubbish on the Aberdeenshire coast.

The Scottish SPCA said the little male was thankfully rescued by one of their animal officers but urged the public to be aware of the problem litter can cause to our native wildlife.

Posting on their official Facebook page, the charity shared images of the struggling seal, adding: "Animal rescue officer Lynn was called to help this seal on the Aberdeenshire coast who was tangled in discarded netting and rope."

The photos then showed the male seal with the netting wrapped tightly around its neck.

They added that Lynn was able to help the stricken animal, stating: "Thankfully he was unharmed and could be released right away but many animals are not so lucky. Please remember to dispose of litter responsibly."

Followers of the page flocked to thank the charity and Lynn for helping the little seal, with many calling her a hero.

One wrote: "Poor wee soul, people are just so bloody lazy leaving stuff lying about leaving it in the water for poor animals get caught up in it."

While another added: "Exactly why I litter pick the beaches near me, every little helps to stop this sort of thing."
