American football season is arriving with another number for fans to worry about besides the score: the growing cost of following their favorite teams.
Americans who spend money on sports fandom shell out an average of $1,970 a year, according to a National Debt Relief survey of more than 2,000 U.S. adults cited by CNBC. But younger fans are spending substantially more, and many have gone into debt along the way.
