TAT to delight with light-and-sound shows
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is organising the Vijitr extravagant light-and-sound event across five regions of Thailand between April and June, in line with a strategy to promote meaningful travel experiences and sustainable tourism.
The Vijitr project was initiated in response to a recent survey on domestic tourists' travel behaviour during the third quarter of 2022 which found that the pandemic's impact on travel had lessened and that events were a good way to stimulate travel to different provinces around the country.
TAT is scheduled to stage the Vijitr extravagant light-and-sound events in the five regions of Thailand – Central, Northeast, North, South and East.

Chiva-Som announces ambassador campaign
Chiva-Som recently announced the launch of the Friends of Chiva-Som ambassador campaign. The campaign is dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural environment surrounding its two resorts in Hua Hin, Thailand and Al Ruwais, Qatar, as well as promoting sustainable tourism and wellness practices within the industry globally.
Chiva-Som continues to take firm steps to minimise its impact on the planet with a renewed commitment to sustainability that goes beyond its operations and into community outreach initiatives by bringing together a raft of regional and global-renowned icons in the field of sport, food, entertainment and wellness for the Friends of Chiva-Som campaign in 2023.
Some of the esteemed Friends of Chiva-Som include Belgin Aksoy -- founder of Global Wellness Day; Sufiya Sufi -- ultra-long-distance runner; Michelin-star chef Dan Bark; Susie Ellis -- chairman and CEO of the Global Wellness Institute (GWI); renowned Thai actress Suquan Bulakul; amateur triathlete Tulyatep Uawithya and renowned chef Maximilian Müller, currently chef de cuisine at the two Michelin-starred restaurant Pavillon at Baur au Lac in Switzerland. Chedi Hegra to open by year-end
The Chedi Hegra is set to open by the fourth quarter of 2023 within the Hegra Unesco World Heritage Site in Saudi Arabia, making it the first hotel to welcome guests to a uniquely authentic luxury experience deep in the ancient Nabataean site in the northwest of the country.
Situated within Saudi Arabia's first Unesco World Heritage Site, The Chedi Hegra will offer 35 bespoke guest rooms, each with its own distinct connection to the Hegra landscape, a breathtaking testimony of human expression within the natural environment. The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is building the hotel directly into several existing structures, including an old railway station and surrounding buildings, Hegra Fort, and others. Structural and exterior walls, some with historical mud-brick construction, are being preserved and integrated with modern architecture.
The vast majority of the Unesco World Heritage Site will remain untouched by construction and will be carefully preserved by RCU to maintain the integrity of Hegra's incredibly human and natural heritage. RCU has also ensured all design and construction efforts align with the Sustainability Charter for AlUla, including a light-touch tourism approach, imaginative infrastructure, planting of native flora, and an all-electric mobility system. Where possible, the project will use local construction materials and work with local businesses and labour, and the hotel is expected to create at least 120 jobs once fully operational.
