A measles case that led Jackson County Public Health to close its Lee's Summit building for a day last week has now been linked to an earlier infection on an Amtrak train. County investigators say that single case has exposed 251 people in eastern Jackson County, and at least 10 of them must quarantine for 21 days because they were unvaccinated or did not know their vaccination status, the Missouri Independent reported in a story first published by Beacon: Kansas City.
County officials said the infected resident likely caught the virus on an Amtrak train traveling from Sedalia to Chicago on Aug. 27. A Missouri resident with confirmed measles boarded that train, Train 318, the Missouri River Runner, in Sedalia. State officials have tied two more cases to the same passenger, one in another rider and one in a household member, bringing the total linked to the train exposure to four.
