There was travel chaos in Spain today (Nov 4) as airports across the country were shut down and hundreds of flights grounded. The disruption was caused by fears over debris from an uncontrolled Chinese rocket re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
The Spanish Air Force was scrambled as air traffic controllers and European space authorities monitored the trajectory of the 21-ton space craft as it passed over the country, according to The Sun. Spain's airspace had to be closed while air traffic controllers tried to pinpoint where exactly the rocket would break up.
There were concerns that debris could rain down on the ground below. The airspace has now been reopened, but disruption is likely to continue for the rest of the day.
