Southern Lebanon residents rush to flee homes as Israel pounds Beirut with bombs

Traffic became gridlocked as families fled southern Lebanon after Israel's military issued a notice ordering all of Beirut's southern suburbs to evacuate.

Vehicles were captured leaving to the coastal road in the city of Sidon on Wednesday (4 March), with long queues formed that lasted for hours as residents headed north to seek safety.

The Israeli military said it carried out a large wave of airstrikes in southern Beirut on Friday, targeting what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure in the Dahieh district.

Prior to the latest attacks, Lebanon said over 120 people had been killed and close to 700 wounded by airstrikes since 2 March, with at least 90,000 people reportedly displaced.
