The South Lanarkshire College Board of Management, including the South Lanarkshire College Acting Principal, and all college staff were delighted to celebrate with the South Lanarkshire College ‘Class of 2022’ at the college’s first graduation ceremony held at the Hamilton Town House since 2019.
The ceremony saw students from a range of Higher National. PDA and SVQ subject areas including childhood practice, beauty therapy, quantity surveying, legal studies, business and counselling, joined with their family, friends, and staff, to celebrate their success.
The event was attended by 160 students who were treated to presentations from Douglas Morrison, Vice Chairing member of the South Lanarkshire College Board of Management, South Lanarkshire College Acting Principal Alan Sherry, and guest speaker: David Martindale, Scottish Football Manager for Premiership club Livingston.
David spoke to the graduands about the impact education had on his life. David described the way in which his life changed for the better, when he undertook a degree following an arrest in 2004. David spoke about his past experiences openly, citing how education helped him turn his life around.
HNC Childhood Practice graduate, Asia Aslam, said after the event: “What a day! The guest speaker was truly inspiring, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet with my classmates, to celebrate all our achievements over the past year. We have worked exceptionally hard, and it’s great to finally be reaping the rewards. We have had a fantastic day and wish to thank South Lanarkshire College staff for providing us with such a joyous event”.
Asia from Renfrew, who completed her HNC qualification in June of this year added: “As a result of my course, I have now secured my dream post of working a Support Assistant position in a Primary School, proving that all the studying, sweat and toil over the past two years of my qualification have been worth it”.
South Lanarkshire College Vice Chairing member, Douglas Morrison, commented: " It’s fantastic to hear the stories of success and ambition of Asia and her fellow students. It’s an absolute privilege to congratulate each and every one of our very talented Higher National, PDA and SVQ students today.
"The graduation ceremony is a highlight in the calendar for the college and is a chance for our students and their loved ones to celebrate their dedication and hard work. On behalf of all staff and the Board of Management at South Lanarkshire College, I would like to warmly congratulate all our 2022 graduates.”
South Lanarkshire College Acting Principal, Alan Sherry OBE, added: “Our students have all worked incredibly hard throughout the year to complete their courses and progress to further study, training, or employment.
"Graduation is a celebration of accomplishment and of transition of our student journey and I am delighted that we have been able to celebrate all student achievements at this exciting event. We have a had a wonderful day at our Graduation ceremony, and we wish every one of our students, all the very best for their future endeavours”.
