The official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie has finally confirmed that "John Wick" star Keanu Reeves will be voicing the fiendish Shadow.
Paramount has just released the first trailer for the upcoming movie that introduces one of Sonic's most iconic foes. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will premiere in theaters on Dec. 20, 2024, and is the third film in a trilogy of live-action adaptations.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Trailer
The third movie in the series will explore new areas of the video game universe that was created by Sega.
However, so far, plot details of the upcoming movie have been kept under wraps and the only thing that fans knew was that Shadow would be included due to a post-credits scene after Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The film stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic and brings back other Hollywood actors such as Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, according to Variety.
On top of these, other voice actors are also returning, such as Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles "Tails" Prower and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. The latter also recently starred in Paramount+'s live-action spin-off series "Knuckles."
The first movie in the franchise premiered in theaters in February 200 and its sequel came out in April 2022.
Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earned more than $724 million combined at the global box office. The director of the first two films, Jeff Fowler, is returning to direct the third movie.
Shadow the Hedgehog
The first trailer for the third movie in the series shows off some dialogue for Shadow, letting fans hear a glimpse of Keanu Reeves as the Black hedgehog.
The footage also shows how Shadow is too powerful for even the combined forces of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, said IGN.
This leads the trio of heroes to seek out help from their former nemesis, Dr. Robotnik, who looks a little worse for wear following the other two movies. The trailer also shows a lot of fight scenes and also gives a first look at Shadow's Akira bike slide.
It seems like Shadow will have a major role in the third film's general lore and his powers make him appear nearly anywhere he wants in an instant. Paramount has just started hyping up the upcoming movie but Sega already started a few months ago.
This was when the studio proclaimed 2024 as the "Year of Shadow" and spent the past few months building up the character himself in different ways. These include a tour featuring a replica of Shadow's motorcycle, according to ComicBook.
