Snow to batter UK in days as weather forecasters give update on Beast from the East for Ireland

Weather forecasters here have given an update on the likelihood of a Beast for the East weather event hitting Ireland as the UK braces for a barrage of snow in the coming days.

While the UK Met Office has played down a Beast for the East repeat, they have predicted very cold days next week with falls of the white stuff likely.

Despite the frosty forecast across the Irish Sea, Ireland looks like it will escape but a colder turn is on the horizon.

Temperatures will plummet to below freezing this weekend with the country set to experience falls to -3C on Saturday night.

Respected weather expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather informed his followers that there will not be "severe cold" and that there will be "NO Beast from the East." He also stressed that high pressure is expected to bring a dry Bank Holiday weekend.

"Still a mainly dry outlook too with very little rain," he told his extensive online following.

Met Éireann has said Saturday, while remaining dry and bright, will become colder with afternoon temperatures between 6C and 7C in the northwest and 11C in the southeast.

Saturday night will be cold and dry with long clear spells. There will be widespread frost and possibly ice as temperatures fall to between -3C and 0C.

Sunday morning will be cold and frosty but it will remain dry with plenty of sunshine.

Cloud will increase through the day and patches of light rain or drizzle will develop in the southwest later. Highest temperatures of 5C to 10C, coldest in Ulster, with light to moderate southerly winds.

Looking beyond the weekend, Met Éireann said: "Staying quite settled early in the week with just occasional rain and drizzle. Temperatures near or above the February average. More changeable and unsettled conditions are possible later in the week."
