A Scottish photographer has shared a series of images of filming locations for Local Hero in honour of the cult classic's 40th anniversary.
Released in February 1983, the film stars American actor Peter Riegert as young executive Mac, who flies to Scotland to purchase an entire town on behalf of the oil company he works for. Other cast members include Burt Lancaster, Denis Lawson, and Peter Capaldi.
Throughout the film, materialistic Mac begins to appreciate the simple natural beauty of Scotland and its people, returning home at the end a changed man.
The film is set in the fictional village of Ferness, but Scots watching may recognise it as the real-life village of Pennan in Aberdeenshire. Other filming locations include Camusdarach Beach, Lochailort, and Arisaig.
Taking to Facebook, photographer Tony Gillanders shared images of scenes from the film alongside pictures of what the locations look like today.
Posting in the Scotland from the Roadside group, he wrote: "40 years ago today, Local Hero was released in the cinema first in USA then here a few weeks later. My favourite movie filmed in Scotland."
Since being posted, the images have received over 1,400 likes from fellow Facebook users. With almost 200 comments, many were also keen to share their thoughts on the photos and the iconic film's 40th anniversary.
"Brilliant film, never tire of watching it," one posted, while a second echoed: "Great film with a great soundtrack."
A third revealed: "Myself and mates were extras in that, the parts shot at Morar. Great fun, sun, loads of laughs being paid and fed at the beach watching a fiĺm being made."
Another said: "Loved that movie. Still do enjoy watching it again and again."
Meanwhile, a fifth commented: "I had forgotten about this film. Thanks for taking me back."
