Six-year-old boy becomes fourth child to die following Babbs Mill Lake incident

A six-year-old boy has become the fourth child to die after being recovered from a frozen lake over the weekend. West Midlands Police says that the child has died in hospital after being one of those pulled from the lake at Babbs Mill Park in Solihull on Sunday (December 11).

The force said that four boys were recovered altogether and three of the boys, aged 11, 10 and 8, passed away earlier in the week. The six-year-old was in a critical condition in hospital but West Midlands Police has now confirmed his passing today (December 14).

In a statement, the force said: "It is with heartfelt sadness that we have to report this afternoon, the six-year-old in hospital has lost his fight for life. Our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragedy.

"We cannot comprehend the enormity of the pain they must feel and our hearts go out to them. Specialist officers remain in contact with the family and we will issue further information as soon as we can."

Floral tributes have been left at Babbs Mill Lake following the death of the children. West Midlands Police also said that searches have now been completed and that the police incident at the lake will be lifted tonight.
