Sir Alex Ferguson is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Scottish Football Writers’ Association next month.
The Manchester United and Aberdeen managerial legend will pick up his gong, sponsored by William Hill, at the annual Player of the Year awards night in Glasgow.
Ferguson was in Scotland earlier this year for the unveiling of his statue at Pittodrie to commemorate his success while in charge of Aberdeen.
The 80-year-old famously led the Reds to European Cup Winners’ Cup success with victory over Real Madrid in 1983.
And domestically Ferguson also broke the Old Firm’s Scottish football dominance during the club’s greater period of success.
That saw him targeted by Manchester United who he joined in 1986 after also taking the Scotland national team to the World Cup in Mexico earlier that same year.
Ferguson won 13 English top flight titles and two Champions League trophies to make him the most successful British manager of all time.
Archie Gemmill was the recipient of the first SFWA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 on the anniversary of his famous goal against Holland in the World Cup.
Craig Brown was recognised the following year with the annual dinner postponed due to Covid in the following two years.
