Whether you rent or own, investing in a new bed frame requires serious consideration.
Aside from the cost, there’s the DIY element - not to mention how you’ll navigate the piece out of the door when the time comes to move. But thanks to Simba, you can cast your toolbox aside.
While the sleep specialist is best known for its range of supremely comfortable bed-in-a-box models, the brand has extended its offering to include all sorts of products designed to enhance your sleep experience - from bedding to pillows, and now, bed frames.
Boutique bedroom style
There are three frames in three stylish contemporary colourways that will make your bed the statement piece it deserves to be.
The first is Orion, a simple bed with an upholstered headboard available in dark grey, cream and pistachio green. Next up is Pegasus (pictured above), an elevated design that looks transported from a boutique hotel with its soft curves and winged headboard. It comes in cream, blush and a rich navy. Finally there’s Sirius, a decadent design with a buttoned headboard covered in a cotton twill which comes in grey, cream and teal. All are available in double, king and superking sizes.
- Double: £642.95
- King: £659.45
- Superking: £714.45
- Double: £785.95
- King: £802.45
- Superking: £840.95
- Double: £901.45
- King: £923.45
- Superking: £956.45
No tools? No problem
But the best part is that there is absolutely zero manual labour involved, thanks to clever locks and screw system Simba uses in place of traditional methods. In fact, aside from a set of scissors to free the pieces from their cardboard delivery boxes, all you’ll need is a willing friend to help you put it together using nothing but your bare hands.
How to construct a Simba bed frame
Simba claims it can all be done in 10 minutes flat, but for the fellow DIY-averse (hello, nice to meet you) it might take double that - still, it’s a snip on the construction time of comparable models.
Simply slot the headboard, sides and bottom sections into place and secure with screwed knobs before adding your legs, which we found was best done by tilting the frame to the side. As a bonus, the legs come fitted with screws too, ready to twist on.
The final job is getting the twin slat panels into place, but again, it’s a doddle. Each patented Simba Flex slat panel comes ready constructed, so there’s no huffing and puffing or sore palms trying to press them into place. All it takes is two clamps and a couple of twists and turns to make them secure. Add your mattress and hey presto! You’re ready for bed.
Verdict
We were stunned at how quickly everything came together and despite the slightly mystifying picture-based instructions, things felt intuitive enough to work out on our own. There are guidance videos on Simba’s website if you come a cropper, but it’s clear the brand’s designers have worked hard to come up with such a fool-proof design for its customers.
The only drawback is a lack of storage; there’s just about enough room under the bed to slide in a few vacuumed-sealed bags, but not much more. Here’s hoping ottoman storage beds are in the pipeline.
A month in, and the frame is going strong, supporting us and our mattress for blissful snoozes every night. Simba recommends tightening the screws periodically but other than that, there’s nothing else to do but enjoy your chic new bed.
