Significant bus delays for Democratic National Convention (DNC) attendees on Monday evening were attributed to a combination of protest activity, a temporary closure of a vehicle screening area, and two separate shuttle bus incidents, as reported by the Secret Service on Tuesday.
The US Secret Service Chief of Communications, Anthony Guglielmi, stated that the vehicle screening area outside the DNC was closed temporarily on Monday due to security concerns amid ongoing protest activity in the vicinity.
Simultaneously, two shuttle bus incidents exacerbated the situation. One shuttle bus accidentally collided with a security gate, while another shuttle bus experienced mechanical issues, leading to its disablement. These incidents collectively contributed to significant traffic congestion and delays for DNC attendees relying on shuttle bus transportation.
Guglielmi acknowledged the adverse impact caused by these compounding factors, describing the delays as unacceptable. He expressed the Secret Service's sincere apologies for the inconvenience faced by DNC attendees and assured that efforts are underway to collaborate with partners and implement necessary adjustments to prevent similar delays in the future.
