Sidney Crosby was always going to score his 500th career NHL goal on Tuesday.
Why? Because the Pittsburgh Penguins were playing the Philadelphia Flyers and the universe is always looking to create cosmic harmony. On Tuesday, Crosby got his 500th career NHL goal, marking a historic milestone for one of the best hockey players to ever play the game.
It was an inevitable landmark for Crosby to hit, hitting the 500 mark in 1,077 games played across his 17-year NHL career. And of course it was always going to come against the Flyers, the Penguins’ long-time cross-state rival with a dated history of bad blood between the two.
The goal was a quintessential Crosby goal, a beautiful power play snipe on a sharp angle by the goal line.

It’s really awesome that Crosby got to score this milestone goal in front of the home Pittsburgh crowd. And look at the reaction from his teammates! Just the best.
But there are even more hilarious coincidences about this goal. Crosby’s 500th career NHL goal is his 50th career goal against the Flyers, coming on the Penguins 50th game of the season, and on long-time Penguins’ great Jaromir Jagr’s 50th birthday. That’s fate for you!
