‘Shut up’: The Titanic received at least 4 iceberg warnings. Then its operator was told to ‘keep out’ and went to bed 15 mins before the collision

A TikTok account called Histropedia, which posts as @histropedia50, shared a short history video that has drawn 335,500 views. The caption reads, “The Titanic Ignored These Warnings Before Disaster.” The TikTok clip presents a claim about iceberg messages sent to the ship on the day it sank.

On-screen text in the video states, “The Titanic received 7 iceberg warnings on the day it sank. The last ship to warn them was told: ‘Shut up. I am busy.’ That operator turned off his radio and went to bed. 37 minutes later the Titanic hit the iceberg.” Other text on the clip reads, “7 warnings. all ignored. 1,500 dead.” The same video frames the exchange as Titanic’s operator being told to “keep out.”
