Shoppers left shocked after finding out price on turkey in Morrisons is not a typo

Shoppers have been left shocked after finding out the price on a turkey in Morrisons was not a typo. A picture of the turkey on sale caused a stir on social media, with shoppers left puzzled by the cost of the meat.

The stuffed bird will be on the table for millions across the UK this Christmas, but few are likely to have set families back more than one of the turkeys pictured sitting on the shelf in the supermarket.

The image of the 'Best Organic Bronze Turkey' was shared by one shopper to Reddit, with the price tag of £147.50, for 7.375 kilos of meat, reports the Star.

The stunned woman shared the snap of Morrisons' security tagged turkey, which must be used by Boxing Day. She wrote: "Daughter took this photo of a turkey in morrisons this morning. £147 !!!!!!! Who could ever afford this!!!!"

Twitter page No Context Brits picked up on the outrage and posted a different snap of the bird, with the caption: "Broken Britain indeed." One person commented: "Anyone who can afford to pay £147 for a turkey wouldn't be shopping in Morrisons in the first place."

"Calm down," another user wrote. "It’s a speciality product that costs a lot more than normal to produce. 99% are cheap end not like this. Like posting a picture of a Ferrari price tag and saying all cars are expensive. Need some perspective."

When it was suggested that the yellow label may have been a 'typo', others were quick to clarify that it wasn't and the price of organic free range meat has risen. A follower also reminded fellow Brits that not only it that the price to make the turkey yours, but then one must take into account the extortionate current cost of cooking it.

They said: "And at 3 hours 38 minutes cooking time it'll cost a further £276.20 in energy to achieve the correct level of dryness and tastelessness."

A spokesman for Morrisons responded: "This turkey is the most premium organic product available in our offering and the price of £20 a kilo is in line with the market price. A similar sized turkey, Morrisons British large whole turkey, is available to buy for £4.99 per kg, costing around £31.44."
