Shell energy, British Gas, EDF and Scottish Power under fire as customers unable to submit meter readings

A number of energy companies have come under fire after furious customers have been unable to submit their meter readings.

Customers of Shell Energy, British Gas, EDP, and Scottish Power have been unable to submit meter readings on their websites, apps or via phone. It comes as Money Saving Expert's Martin Lewis urged customers to take meter readings today ahead of tomorrow's expected huge hike in prices.

By taking readings today, households will be able to tell their energy provider exactly how much gas and electricity they used before the price soared. On April 1, Ofgem will be increasing its price cap and for those on a default tariff paying by direct debit, the price cap will go up by almost £700.
