Tasia Fortune's mother spent five weeks insisting her daughter had not taken her own life.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, the Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office determined that the 29-year-old's death was a homicide, more than five weeks after her body was found hanging from a tree behind an abandoned house in Jackson.
