A 36-year-old woman with a known patulous Eustachian tube found a remedy for it on social media: a hypertonic saline rinse. She instilled the solution into her ear canal. The ear blocked immediately, and then the room began to spin. Clinicians reporting the case in Annals of Medicine and Surgery diagnosed benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in her left posterior semicircular canal and titled their write-up, bluntly, a social media remedy gone wrong.
