Over the last few years, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Drake have developed a relationship as the former has quickly climbed the ranks of the greatest Canadian player of all time.
Fresh off of a career season, Gilgeous-Alexander led Canada to arguably their best FIBA World Cup run when they finished No. 3 after beating the United States in the bronze medal game.
Meanwhile, Drake is Drake. He’s one of the most famous celebrities in the entire world. When he randomly visited OKC and sat courtside during a Dec. 2021 Oklahoma City Thunder game, his attendance created national headlines.
Drake — a Toronto Raptors’ ambassador — has caused some paranoia among the Thunder fanbase, as some cynically believe he could be trying to recruit Gilgeous-Alexander to his home team when he becomes a free agent in 2027.
Regardless of how true that theory is, it seems like both Gilgeous-Alexander and Drake have really hit it off over the last few years and have formed a genuine friendship and respect for one another in their craft.
Further evidence of this was provided on Friday night when Drake posted on his Instagram story that Gilgeous-Alexander gifted him a signed jersey with a special message written on it.
Gilgeous-Alexander wrote: “To the boy: Shout out to the flashiest, the splashiest, the craftiest… my fly brother, the GOAT… appreciate you 4L.”
If you’re wondering how they could’ve possibly linked up, the Thunder traveled to Canada this past week for a Montreal preseason game against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. Odds are, Gilgeous-Alexander and Drake met during OKC’s time in Canada.
