'Sexual assault' on 13-year-old girl at Dundee-Rangers game reported

POLICE are investigating reports of a sexual assault during the recent Premiership match between Dundee and Rangers.

The incident reported involves a 13-year-old girl and took place in the Bob Shankly stand at Dens Park. This stand houses travelling supporters.

Wednesday’s match was suspended for 18 minutes after Rangers fans let off a large number of flares that triggered fire alarms under the stand.

There were around two dozen red flares ignited in the Bob Shankly Stand shortly after the Premiership game between Dundee and their Glasgow rivals – which had already been delayed because the visitors were held up in traffic – kicked off.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are carrying out enquiries following an allegation of sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl, which happened at Dens Park in Dundee on Wednesday, 1 November, 2023.”

Officials from Dundee football club released a statement.

A spokesperson said: “Dundee Football Club can confirm we are aware of an incident which took place in the Bob Shankly stand during Wednesday’s match against Rangers.

“The club are fully supporting the police investigation and the club’s child welfare and protection officer is supporting the situation.

“As this is an ongoing police investigation the club will be making no further comment.”
