Sex offender who lost limbs in train horror trashes Glasgow shop with prosthetic arm

A man who lost his limbs in a train crash has admitted being aggressive to women and children.

Thomas Proudfoot used one of his prosthetic limbs to smash glass bottles when he lashed out at a Day Today convenience store in Anniesland. The quadruple amputee shouted, swore, uttered threats and behaved aggressively in the store.

Proudfoot was locked up for seven years in 2014 after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl near his former home in Clydebank.

He subjected her to a terrifying ordeal during which he kicked her on the head and body and launched a horrific sexual attack.

He also exposed himself and made sexual demands of his terrified victim during the onslaught.

Proudfoot had earlier used his metal arm to break a man's jaw before attacking a police officer.

The now 25-year-old lost his limbs in 2012 after he was struck by a train in Bearsden. His injuries were so severe and life threatening, he was left with prosthetic limbs including the false arm and metal claw.

Proudfoot pled guilty last month at Glasgow Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the Day Today store.

He also admitted an identical earlier offence at the store from March 31, 2021.

Proudfoot was due to be sentenced today, but concerns were raised about his background report by Sheriff Tony Kelly who called for new ones to take place.

He said: "You are at liberty and you will be looking at a community payback order but I need reports so I will have to further defer sentence."

Bail restrictions were put on Proudfoot which include confining him to his grandmother's home in Perth between 7pm and 7am until the sentencing at the end of the month.
