Selena Gomez has been mocked by fans for returning to social media just days after she quit her accounts and declared "I'm done".
The star had vowed to take a break from her various online platforms on November 3 following backlash over her since deleted October 31st Instagram post in which she commented on the deadly Israel-Gaza conflict.
She had dramatically announced, after leaving fans divided by her take on the conflict, that she was "taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I’m done...”
But after being absent for a few days, the 31-year-old, who with 430 million followers is the most followed woman online, returned on Wednesday sharing new snaps on her Instagram Story.
One showed her smiling as she rested her elbow on a large chopping board in the kitchen of Moo’s Craft Barbecue restaurant in Los Angeles.
In another, she posed with some restaurant workers while holding a plate of food.
The post led to several fans swiftly slamming and mocking the move on Reddit. One asked: "Selena is back after taking some time off social media… mmmm what was that like two days?"
Another wrote: "I wanna believe that if I dramatically suggested I’d be taking a social media break, I’d at LEAST give myself a month before bringing my sorry a** back."
A third added: "She needs to create a close friends story or secret account so she can at least act like she’s taking a break to the public."
While a fourth commented: "These celebrities are so ridiculous. Making big declarations over important issues just for clout and attention. she is so addicted to attention she couldn't even last 10 days offline."
In the post that kicked things off, Gomez had said about Israeli airstrikes and ground invasion following Hamas' attack on Israel weeks earlier: "I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that's going on in the world.
"People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific.
"We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good," she continued. "I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag.
"I just can't stand by [while] innocent people getting hurt. That's what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won't. Love, Selena."
The post received pushback from some fans. One wrote: "I love Selena Gomez but this is the saddest excuse of an Instagram story that I've ever seen."
Another added: "Selena Gomez is literally the 3rd most followed person on Instagram with almost half a BILLION followers. A post WILL make a difference. This is why I’m annoyed when celebs make a “neutral” statement.
"They do it only because of their reputation. Not because they genuinely care."
According to Social Blade, Gomez has lost more than 273,000 followers since making her comments.
