See Glasgow skyline from 100ft in the air as Zipslide the Clyde returns

Glasgow thrill-seekers can get their adrenaline pumping with an extended 1000 feet-long zipslide route, that runs alongside the Clyde and ends at the Tall Ship.

Specialist charity Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (SBH Scotland), announced the return of one of their most popular fundraising events, Zipslide the Clyde - the longest zipslide it's ever done. From Friday, September 16 until Sunday, September 18, participants can launch off from a 100 feet-high crane next to the stunning Glasgow Riverside Museum and see the Glasgow skyline from a new angle, all while raising money for charity.

The event was postponed during the Covid-19 pandemic. It appears people are eager to take part this year, as the Saturday slots have already sold out.

Deborah Roe, director of Fundraising, for SBH Scotland, hopes the 2022 event is the 'biggest yet'.

She told Glasgow Live: “We are thrilled to announce the return of our Zipslide the Clyde challenge in September and as the only zipslide challenge taking place in Scotland this year, we’re calling on our supporters to make this our biggest challenge yet. Our annual zipslide challenge is not just a highly-anticipated event in our calendar each year but is also a hugely important fundraising activity."

With an annual requirement to raise £1milllon, and with little statutory support, fundraising activities are essential to ensure the charity is able to continue to provide their dedicated services. With many cancelled events due to lockdowns, the charity is hoping to entice as many supporters as possible with their new challenge.

She added:"We heavily rely on this to ensure we can continue to deliver many of our vital services including support groups and 1-2-1 support. It’s been really devastating to postpone it the past two years.

“That’s why this year we hope people get their friends and work colleagues involved and come along for a fantastic day out on the Clyde, all in aid of SBH Scotland. Whether you’re a self-confessed thrill seeker or looking to overcome your fears – zipping down the Clyde will be an unforgettable heart-racing ride, that will go a long way in making a positive difference to the lives of thousands of families.”

All proceeds raised will go towards providing personalised support to thousands of children, young people and adults across Scotland affected by the lifelong, complex conditions of spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. The zipslide challenge will be held at the Glasgow Riverside Museum.

Participants must be aged 10 and over, a registration fee of £20 is required and there is a minimum sponsorship of £150. To sign up for the challenge, visit their website here.
