Search operation enters second day after yacht capsizes off Scottish coast

A SEARCH operation has been launched after a yacht capsized in Sutherland on Saturday morning.

Authorities were sent out to Strathan Bay near Lochinver following reports of debris washing ashore in the area.

Police Scotland have said that “enquiries are ongoing” while RNLI Lochinver Lifeboat searches the area with the help of a Coastguard helicopter.

RNLI Lochinver Lifeboat said: “The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged at 10.40 by Stornoway Coastguard to assist with a search in the Loch Inver area.

“Coastguard teams from Ullapool and Achiltibuie were also involved. Due to the nature of the incident no further details will be released.”

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said the search remains ongoing around Lochinver on Sunday.

“A Coastguard helicopter and Lochinver RNLI lifeboat have been sent to join the search, supported by coastguard rescue teams from Lochinver, Achiltibuie and Ullapool.”
