To say the Broncos had a roller coaster 2023 season is an understatement.
Denver started the season 0-3, including a 70-20 drubbing at the hands of the Dolphins.
But led by Russell Wilson, the team went undefeated from Week 7 to 12. Included in that impressive five-game run was a three-touchdown performance at home against the Chiefs.
The veteran QB showed positive signs in 2023, including throwing 26 touchdown passes, but he also struggled, headlined by a three-pick performance on Dec. 3 against the Texans.
Wilson was benched for Weeks 17 and 18 leading to a future for the former Seahawks legend, which is very much up in the air.
Coach Sean Payton spoke with USA TODAY’s Mackenzie Salmon on Radio Row and said that Wilson’s future hasn’t been decided.
“We can’t exclude options yet until we see what the options are in free agency and in the draft,” said Payton, who finished his first season as head coach of the Broncos with an 8-9 record.
Payton also told Salmon the draft meetings will begin Monday and they have already discussed QBs in free agency.
He insists he doesn’t know anything yet regarding the QB position in ’24 and is basically requesting everyone pump the brakes (for now).
