Singer Cammy Barnes is the only Scot to reach the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent and hopes the nation will get behind him when he performs on tonight’s live show.
The 32-year-old, from Methil, Fife, will be singing Caledonia and is calling on Scotland to rally round and vote him through to Sunday’s grand final.
Cammy, who plays with The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, won over the judges in his audition with a soulful rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s Drivers License which he dedicated to his newborn daughter Bonnie.
Speaking from his BGT dressing room the barber, who owns Barney’s Barbershop in Leven, said: “I’m super proud to be the only Scottish person in the semi final.
“It would be unreal and potentially life changing if Scotland can get in my corner and help me bring the win home. Tell yer pals, maws and grans to vote.
“I will be singing Caledonia and you can’t get more Scottish than that. I’m flying the saltire alone this year on BGT. Scotland is pretty good at getting behind their own so here’s hoping I can make the final.”
Cammy, who only started singing seriously last year, added: “My family and friends are all buzzing. My maw is like Isa from Still Game - telling everyone about her boy being on the telly.
“I’m doing all this to make my daughter proud. She is five months old now and giggling away. Being able to tell her when she is older that her daddy went all the way to the final would be magic.”
The singer was so nervous during his audition, Simon Cowell made him stop and start again but Cammy says he has conquered his nerves ahead of tonight’s performance.
He said: “I was shocked at my nerves during the audition as I have played in front of tens of thousands of people with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers but that was with a band and this was me, alone and exposed on a stage singing in front of Simon. No wonder I was scared. He is the OG of the music world.
“I have my nerves under control now. I’ve been jumping in the sea in Fife and that seems to have done the trick. I’ve also had a lot of support from the team at BGT.”
Cammy, who first performed live on stage when he was 13-years-old in a high school show, dreams of having a number one and going on tour round the world.
He said: “Although I love playing instruments, nothing beats breaking your heart down a microphone. Us Scots are really good at that.
“Today I’m concentrating on getting through to Sunday’s final but I have big plans for the future. I have written a song with two of my friends about my daughter which is ready to release.
“My dream is to sell out arenas all over the world and sample the best of food as I go. I want to try a burger in every state in the US.”
Cammy, who performed at last year’s Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, added: “This last year has been a total whirlwind. Just crazy.
“The other night I ended up in Sainsbury’s buying a carry out with two of the Nolan sisters. They were staying in my hotel and when Coleen spotted me having dinner on my own she invited me to join them.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think that a wee boy from Methil would end up on BGT. Just keeping everything crossed that Scotland can help me get to the final.”
