A Scots mum has been left fuming after thieves broke into a garden outbuilding and stole her son's off-road bikes and motorcycles worth tens of thousands of pounds.
Kirstin Pennycook has told how the rogues targeted her home in Thornton, Kirkcaldy overnight on September 17 and took 10 motorbikes, four mountain bikes and expensive tyres belonging to her sons Ross, 19, and Jamie, 17.
Windows were removed from the wooden structure and the walls were cut through as the bikes were stolen. Heartbroken Kirstin is now offering a £5000 reward for any information which could lead to the return of the bikes. Jamie is a trials bike world champion in their age group, while Ross currently sits in first place in the Scottish Trials Bikes Championships and Kirstin fears their careers have been put in jeopardy as a result of the theft.
She also revealed fears it was a targeted attack. She told the Record: "We get the feeling that they seemed to know what they were looking for.
"Windows and walls were removed for the thieves to get access to the bikes. My son's now have no bikes to practice or compete on as they have all been stolen.
"We have worked hard all our lives as parents to give our boys these opportunities and overnight this has been savagely ripped away from us.
"Jamie has just returned from the Trials World Championships, winning a round of the championship in Andorra and securing 3rd place overall in the world.
"Ross is currently sitting in first place in the Scottish Championships.
"We are willing to offer a £5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the safe return of all these bikes."
Police Scotland has also released an appeal for information over the break-in as they hunt those responsible.
Detective Sergeant Alasdair Young, of Glenrothes CID, said: “This incident happened at a rural location and it appears that the persons responsible knew what they were looking for and would have required transport to take the bikes away.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area, including on rural roads between Tykes Burn and Lochty Burn, off the A92.
“Likewise we are keen to speak to anyone who may be offered these kind of bikes for sale.”
Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1030 of Saturday, 17 September, 2022.
