Scientists Call This Year's El Niño 'Godzilla' as It Could Be the Strongest in 1,000 Years Yet

Scientists are describing this year's unusually powerful El Niño as a potential 'Godzilla' event after sea surface temperatures in the eastern tropical Pacific reached levels last seen during the record-setting 2015 phenomenon.

Climate scientist Prof Mat Collins of the University of Exeter says the event could ultimately become the strongest El Niño in a thousand years, although its peak has not yet arrived and the scale of the event remains uncertain.
