The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Rs 25,000-crore Sarthak Public Distribution System (PDS) scheme aimed at modernising India’s food security network that currently supports nearly 80 crore beneficiaries, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said during a cabinet briefing.
The scheme seeks to strengthen fair price shops, modernise the public distribution system and provide assistance to state agencies for intra-state movement of food grains.
