Sam Kerr heads winner as Chelsea beat Aston Villa to reach Women’s FA Cup Final

Sam Kerr scored the winner as Chelsea booked their place in the Women’s FA Cup Final with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

The Blues were not at their best but found a way to win in front of a crowd of more than 5,000 at Bescot Stadium in Walsall on Sunday.

Chelsea will play Manchester United at Wembley on May 14 after their dramatic 3-2 win over Brighton on Saturday.

Kerr settled a tight contest against Aston Villa when she rose highest to meet Guro Reiten’s cross to score her 24th goal in all competitions this season.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was full of praise for Kerr, who capped fine week after scoring for Australia in their 2-0 win over the Lionesses on Tuesday.

Hayes said: “You can’t [stop her]. I’ve never seen a centre forward move as much as her. It’s not just a single movement. It’s double movement.

“Her energy levels - it’s like she’s a 12-year-old. It’s infectious. But I don’t know a striker in world football that can do what she does. She’s the best.”
