Major supermarkets across Merseyside have stripped their shelves of certain chicken products after a Salmonella scare at the factory of a supplier.
Sainsbury's and Tesco are among the list of stores that've removed products from their shelves after an outbreak of the food poisoning bacteria at a major chicken processing factory. Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Aldi and Pret a Manger have also taken their ranges of ready-to-eat foods including sandwiches, wraps and salads.
Chronicle Live is reporting that the recall came after the bacteria was discovered in a 'limited number' of cooked chicken products, according to suppliers Cranswick. The recall is for products made in the company's Hull factory, however, products from that site are sold across the whole of the country.

A statement from the company said: "As a precautionary measure, we have asked our customers to remove any of their products containing our ready-to-eat chicken produced during the affected period. We are working closely with the Food Standards Agency and will collaborate with their experts to resolve the matter."
The worst affected supermarket is Sainsbury's, which has pulled more than 30 chicken products from stores, followed by Tesco, which has removed 13 products. Sainsbury's said the recall, which includes a chicken and bacon sub roll and BBQ wings, is a "precautionary measure". They said: "We are asking customers not to consume the product and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.”
Tesco, M&S and Waitrose have also urged customers to return products containing cooked chicken. Meanwhile, the Food Standards Authority has issued an urgent recall notice for two Aldi products.
Shoppers have been warned not to eat the products, which all have a Use By Date of between May 3 and May 20, and can return them to the store for a full refund.
Salmonella is a bacteria predominantly in uncooked meat and eggs, it can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and a fever. It can also lead to hospitalisation in more severe cases, although it is not yet clear whether anyone has been ill after eating any contaminated products this time.
