Sakshi Sindwani Recreates Alia Bhatt’s Cannes Look, Talks Online Scrutiny and Body Image

A tribute look with a deeper message

On May 24, Sakshi shared her recreation of Alia Bhatt’s Cannes appearance on Instagram as part of her ongoing #smurecreates series, which aims to make high fashion more inclusive and accessible.

Alia Bhatt originally wore a custom peach couture gown by Tamara Ralph at the Cannes opening night. The ensemble featured a sculpted deep-V neckline, a flowing silhouette, and a soft yet structured design that blended elegance with architectural precision.

Sakshi’s interpretation, created by designer GKD.edit, stayed faithful to the original aesthetic. She wore a peach-toned gown with a plunging neckline and a fluid, trailing silhouette. The look was complemented by jewellery from Diosa Paris, echoing Alia’s statement coral-toned accessories, along with soft waves and a sun-kissed makeup style.

Addressing the “brutal scrutiny” of women online

While the recreated look received praise for its visual appeal, Sakshi’s caption shifted attention to a more painful reality—online harassment and body shaming.

She revealed that over recent weeks, her social media inbox has been filled with abusive messages targeting her appearance. According to her, comments about her body, face, and scars have become increasingly harsh, reflecting what she described as a toxic side of the creator economy.

Sakshi noted that the pressure of algorithms and online engagement often turns content creation into “survival,” where personal expression is constantly judged and dissected.

Drawing parallels with Alia Bhatt’s public scrutiny

In her post, Sakshi also reflected on how even global celebrities like Alia Bhatt are not immune to public criticism. Observing the online commentary around Alia’s Cannes appearance made her more aware of the universal nature of scrutiny faced by women in the public eye.

She shared that it resonated with her own experiences of feeling judged before being fully seen, regardless of achievement or visibility.

Fashion as inclusivity and resistance

Beyond being a fashion homage, Sakshi described the recreation as an intentional statement against rigid beauty norms in the fashion industry. By stepping into a space often defined by “sample-size” standards, she aimed to highlight that style and confidence are not limited by body type.

For her, the goal was not to imitate a celebrity but to assert that fashion belongs to everyone, regardless of shape or size.

Support from social media

Following her post, Sakshi received an outpouring of support from followers. Many praised her honesty, confidence, and willingness to speak openly about body image and online negativity. Users described her message as powerful and necessary in an increasingly appearance-driven digital landscape.

A message on visibility and self-worth

Concluding her reflection, Sakshi emphasized the importance of self-acceptance and visibility on one’s own terms. Her message reinforced a simple but powerful idea: individuals do not need to conform to societal expectations to deserve recognition or respect.

As she stated, she does not need to fit in to deserve visibility—a sentiment that resonated strongly with her audience and added depth to what began as a fashion recreation.
