The MLB draft is coming up soon. To honor this event, Bleacher Report’ Gary Sobleski conducted a 2025 NFL mock draft under MLB rules, and the New Orleans Saints took advantage of the change in format. It’s a fun exercise to get to know some names who could be big in the next few years.
Football players must be three years removed from high school to enter the NFL draft. But MLB prospects can be selected straight out of high school, then make the decision whether they want to go to college or turn pro.
Draft order was determined by Super Bowl odds which left the Saints with the 10th pick. They went with Ohio high school quarterback Tavien St. Clair. St. Clair was one of six high school prospects picked in this exercise. This hypothetical resulted in the Saints drafting a first-round quarterback for the first time since Archie Manning.
I expected to see Bryce Underwood, LSU commit and the top high school prospect in the class of 2025, to be the selection. He was surprisingly picked by the Arizona Cardinals, however, to replace Kyler Murray.
St. Clair, who has committed to Ohio State, is the third-ranked quarterback in the country and the 15th prospect in the nation. Some of the hype around him comes from being so talented without using a quarterback coach. That raw talent is a perfect candidate to sit and refine his technique for a couple of years.
St Clair was described as having “the best arm” at the prestigious Elite 11 camp so he has plenty of talent. In this mock draft, he would be the future of the New Orleans Saints. We’ll keep an eye on his progress in the college game and see where he lands in the real NFL draft in a couple of years.
