Berthed in Hull, P&O's Pride of Rotterdam it is one of the largest ferries in Europe. However, almost as large as the ship itself, is the shadow of the events that occurred almost two weeks ago.
On March 17, P&O decided to axe 800 staff with no notice and by video. The decision prompted outrage as the company said it would be replacing staff immediately with agency workers paid less than the minimum wage.
Since then, the Rotterdam and her sister ship the Pride of Hull have been laid up, with empty cabins and deserted cargo decks. Now, as The Pride of Hull , which saw 82 of its crew sacked as part of the cull, remains berthed in Rotterdam’s Europort, P&O has partly resumed services with the Pride of Rotterdam.
