Saatva Classic vs WinkBed: Which luxury hybrid mattress should you buy this Black Friday?

The image shows the Saatva Classic mattress on the left hand side and the WinkBed on the right in a side by side comparison .

In this Saatva Classic vs WinkBed comparison, we’re looking at two of the most popular luxury hybrids on the market to see which one you should invest in. And right now is one of the best times to buy. You can save $400 off all sizes of the Saatva Classic, taking a queen down to $1,695 (MSRP $2,095), while the WinkBed has its standard (but still excellent value) $300 discount that sees a queen drop to $1,499 (MSRP $1,799).

Both the Saatva and WinkBed feature in our best mattress guide for all sleepers and body types, with the Saatva Classic taking our number one spot. But how do the two mattresses compare to each other? Both have customizable options, but which mattress is best suited to your sleeping style and body type?

With the Black Friday mattress sales already in full swing, this is the perfect time to pick up a luxury mattress for less. In this Saatva Classic vs WinkBed comparison we’ll look at the key differences between the beds to help you decide if it’s time to buy.

Saatva Classic vs WinkBed Mattress: Price & Trial

  • Saatva's Black Friday sale takes $400 off all mattress sizes over $1,000
  • WinkBed has an evergreen $300 discount on the WinkBed
  • Saatva’s benefits are more generous than WinkBeds’

The best hybrid mattresses are always a little more expensive than all-foam options, and the Saatva Classic and WinkBed mattresses are premium beds, even with a discount. Saatva mattress sales run throughout the year, but you will see the biggest discounts around major sales events. And the Saatva Black Friday mattress sales have started early, with $400 off all sizes of the Saatva Classic. We don’t expect to see any further discounts before Black Friday itself so, if you decide the Saatva Classic is the mattress for you, there’s no need to wait to purchase. A queen is currently discounted to $1,695 from its MSRP of $2,095.

Likewise, the WinkBed has an evergreen discount of $300 off all sizes, taking a queen down to $1,499 (MSRP $1,799). The WinkBeds mattress deals don’t change from month to month so, again, there’s no need to wait to purchase the mattress.

In terms of benefits, the Saatva Classic beats the WinkBed hands down with its 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free white glove delivery and old mattress removal. The WinkBed also offers a lifetime warranty, but you’ll only get a 120-night trial and free shipping to your door. However, Saatva do charge a $99 return / exchange fee whereas returns are free with the WinkBed.

Saatva Classic vs WinkBed Mattress: Materials & Design

  • Both mattresses are hybrids, but the Classic is an innerspring hybrid
  • The Saatva Classic comes in two heights (11.5” and 14.5”)
  • The WinkBed comes in one height (13.5”)

The Saatva Classic is the best luxury mattress you can buy, bringing a touch of hotel quality into your bedroom. Available in two heights and three firmness options (Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm), the Saatva Classic is a highly durable mattress that should give you years of comfortable sleep. Underneath the 3” thick Euro pillow top (made with organic cotton and with zoned quilting in the middle for extra lumbar support), you’ll find a CertiPUR-US certified memory foam layer that’s specifically geared towards healthy spinal alignment.

Next up, a layer of zoned individually wrapped 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils sit on top of a support base made up of 13-gauge tempered steel support coils. This is all wrapped up in a foam encasement around the perimeter to stabilize the whole mattress. The cover has also been treated with a specialized botanical antimicrobial treatment that helps to prevent mold and mildew.

The WinkBed comes in one height but four firmness options (Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm and Plus). The mattress starts with a Tencel cover that’s OEKO-TEX Standard Class 1 certified (meaning it’s safe enough for children). All the models apart from the Plus start with a Euro-pillow top, with the soft having a three-layered pillow top for more contouring and pressure relief.

The luxury firm and firm options have a two-layered pillow top. Underneath this is gel-infused foam, and the soft version again has more of this pressure-relieving foam to stop side sleepers getting pressure build up at their hips and shoulders.

The Plus version is constructed slightly differently at the top, skipping the pillow top and going straight for a layer of anti-sag foam, followed by a latex support layer with seven support zones. All the mattresses are finished with a layer of individually wrapped coils with reinforced edge support.

Saatva Classic vs WinkBed Mattress: Comfort & Support

  • Both mattresses offer enhanced lumbar support
  • The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness options
  • The WinkBed comes in four different firmness options

The great thing about both the Saatva Classic and the WinkBed mattresses is that they allow you to customize your mattress and choose a firmness rating that best suits your body weight and sleeping style.

In our Saatva Classic mattress review, we tested the Luxury Firm version of the bed, finding that it offered great pressure relief, along with a fairly traditional innerspring feel. This is a mattress that you sleep on top of, rather than sinking into. There’s good bounce from the coil system and the pillow top provides plenty of cushioning comfort.

We rate the way this mattress keeps the spine aligned and you’ll also feel that your pressure points are kept cushioned. The Saatva Classic is a fantastic choice for those suffering with aches and pains, with the enhanced lumbar support helping to ease any problems. For those with more serious back pains and specific back conditions though, the specialized Saatva RX could be a better choice.

We also tested the luxury firm version of the WinkBed in our WinkBed mattress review, finding that, as with the Saatva Classic, it suited the vast majority of people. Our testers also found that their pressure points were supported and cushioned, and particularly rated the 3-step Back Relief System and LumbarLayer that combined to align the spine and provide extra support where needed. The other bonuses of the WinkBed is the dedicated Plus version for heavier sleepers – we rate this the best mattress for heavy people, as well as the best mattress for back pain if you’re of a heavier build.

Both the Saatva and the WinkBed have soft and firm versions to choose from as well – we’d recommend the soft version to side sleepers and the firm version to stomach sleepers or back sleepers suffering with lower back pain. It is worth noting that the Saatva Classic has a far higher quality finish than the WinkBed, but these are both excellent mattresses with a variety of options.

Saatva Classic vs WinkBed Mattress: Temperature Regulation

  • Both mattresses offer good temperature regulation
  • Saatva’s double layer of coils provides lots of space for air to circulate
  • The WinkBed also keeps sleepers cool with its moisture wicking cover

When we tested the Saatva Classic all our testers stayed cool and comfortable throughout the night. The Saatva has very little foam along with a double layer of coils creating plenty of space for airflow. There’s also a cotton cover that’s naturally breathable.

Likewise, the WinkBed also did a good job of keeping our testers cool and comfortable. There’s a breathable Tencel cover to absorb moisture, gel-infused foam and individually wrapped coils that help move air through the mattress. It also did a good job of keeping sleepers cool throughout the night.

Of course, if you’re a particularly hot sleeper, these mattresses may not be enough to keep you cool. Instead, consider one of our best cooling mattress selection, which are specifically designed for hot sleepers.
