Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid: Which hybrid mattress suits your sleep style?

The Nectar premier hybrid mattress on a bed frame directly next to the Saatva Classic mattress on a bed frame.

The Saatva Classic and Nectar Premier Hybrid are luxury hybrid mattresses from two of the most popular US mattress brands. But is one more suited to your sleeping style than the other? This Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid comparison will help you answer that question.

Both mattress brands feature in this year's best mattresses for all sleepers guide, with the Saatva Classic being our overall top choice. And the Saatva Classic also offers customization options – both in terms of firmness and height. However, that’s not to say that the Nectar doesn’t have plenty to recommend it. We've tried and tested both beds, so we're pitting them against each other based on price, support, comfort and more to find out which best suits your sleep style.

At full MSRP both mattresses are similarly priced, and you’ll get a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty with each of them as well. However, the Nectar is never sold at full MSRP, while you’ll need to wait for one of the admittedly frequent Saatva sales to get a discount. Want to find out more? Read on…

Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: Price & Trial

  • Saatva runs sales through the year that normally take between 12 and 15% off the Saatva Classic
  • The Nectar Premier Hybrid is never sold at full MSRP, with between 40 and 50% off throughout the year
  • Both mattresses come with a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty

Although the Saatva Classic is generally not sold at MSRP, there aren’t currently any discounts after the big Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales. If you’re not in a hurry to purchase, we’d recommend waiting for one of the Saatva mattress sales that run throughout the year. You can expect to see between 12-15% off the Classic, with a queen generally selling for $1,795 (MSRP $2,095). At major sales events this will drop to $1,695.

The evergreen Nectar mattress sales consistently takes up to 50% off its mattresses, with the occasional extra $100 off when you spend $1,000 flash sale popping up. This means you can pick up a queen size Nectar Premier Hybrid for $1,099 (MSRP $2,196). These discounts mean that you’ll always pay less for the Nectar than the Saatva.

Both mattresses come with a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty, but the Saatva has free white glove delivery. This means they'll remove your old mattress and set up your new one. Nectar only ship to your door but do offer free returns – Saatva charge $99 for returns or exchanges.

Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: Materials & Design

  • Both mattresses are hybrids, but the Saatva Classic is an innerspring hybrid
  • The Saatva Classic has five layers and two height choices
  • The Nectar Premier Hybrid has six layers and comes in one height

The Saatva Classic is the best luxury mattress you can buy, bringing a touch of hotel quality into your bedroom. Underneath the 3” thick Euro pillow top (made with organic cotton and with zoned quilting in the middle for extra lumbar support), you’ll find a CertiPUR-US certified memory foam layer that’s specifically geared towards healthy spinal alignment.

Next up, a layer of zoned individually wrapped 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils sit on top of a support base made up of 13-gauge tempered steel support coils. This is all wrapped up in a foam encasement around the perimeter to stabilize the whole mattress. The cover has also been treated with a specialized botanical antimicrobial treatment that helps to prevent mold and mildew.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid starts with a cooling top cover with cooling fibers and an antimicrobial treatment like the Saatva. However, the cover isn’t washable, so make sure to protect it with one of the best mattress protectors on the market.

Underneath this is a layer of therapeutic memory foam for pressure relief and contouring, followed by dynamic support foam for spinal alignment. The coil layer features 8” wrapped infinity innersprings, with two rows of thicker coils along the perimeter for edge support. The base is made of durable support foam and there’s a non-slip shift resistant bottom cover to keep the mattress in place on your bed base.

Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: Comfort & Support

  • The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness options – plush soft, luxury firm and firm
  • The Nectar Premier Hybrid is a medium firm mattress
  • Edge support on the Nectar is a little weak when sitting on the bed

In our Saatva Classic mattress review, we tested the luxury firm version of the bed, finding that it offered great pressure relief, along with a fairly traditional innerspring feel. We’d rate the luxury firm at 7/10 on the firmness scale. This is a mattress that you sleep on top of, rather than sinking into.

There’s good bounce from the coil system and the pillow top provides plenty of cushioning comfort. We rate the way this mattress keeps the spine aligned and you’ll also feel that your pressure points are kept cushioned.

The Saatva Classic is a fantastic choice for those that experience aches and pains, with the enhanced lumbar support helping to ease any problems. For those with more serious back pains and specific back conditions though, the specialized Saatva RX could be a better choice. Read our full Saatva RX mattress review to find out more.

For side sleepers, the plush soft will offer more cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while the firm option should appeal to stomach sleepers. There is a minute amount of motion transfer with the Saatva Classic, but it’s unlikely anyone but the lightest sleepers will be disturbed.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid is a medium firm mattress rated at 6.5/10, best suited to back and side sleepers. In our Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress review, our testers found that the mattress offers just the right amount of sinkage to cradle pressure points, with enough firm support underneath to keep the spine aligned and hips raised.

There’s definitely a little more sinkage with the Nectar than you’ll get from the Saatva, but you won’t ever feel like you’re being enveloped by the mattress. However, this mattress isn’t firm enough for stomach sleepers, who are likely to find that their hips sink in too far to be supported. Motion isolation on the Premier Hybrid is excellent, but edge support was a little disappointing when sitting on the mattress.

Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: Temperature Control

  • Both mattresses offer good temperature regulation
  • Both have moisture wicking covers and coils for airflow
  • If you’re a really hot sleeper, you may want a specialist cooling mattress

When we tested the Saatva Classic all our testers stayed cool and comfortable throughout the night. The Saatva has very little foam along with a double layer of coils creating plenty of space for airflow.

There’s also a cotton cover that’s naturally breathable. A lack of sinkage and the fact that you sleep on top of the mattress also means that heat won’t be trapped in the bed. In fact, our lead tester for the Saatva Classic review scored the bed 5/5 for temperature regulation.

Likewise, the Nectar Premier Hybrid did a great job of keeping our testers comfortable. The mattress has a breathable cover with cooling fibers that help to dissipate heat, and the coil layer helps to keep air flowing through the mattress. Despite having more cooling properties than the Saatva, our tester scored it a still respectable 4/5 for temperature regulation.

Of course, if you’re a particularly hot sleeper you may need more help, so we’d recommend considering our best cooling mattress selection, which are specifically designed for hot sleepers.

Saatva Classic vs Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: Which should you buy?

Buy the Saatva Classic if…

You want a mattress that lasts: The high-quality materials in the Saatva feel like sleeping on a luxury hotel mattress and, despite being in the premium price bracket price wise, we think it’s actually very reasonably priced for the luxurious feel it gives.

You want exceptional edge support: The Saatva Classic scored 5/5 in our edge support tests, meaning you can sleep on the full width of the mattress, as well as sit on it comfortably without risking rolling off.

You want customization options: With three firmness options to choose from, it’s easier to find the perfect fit for your sleeping style with the Saatva Classic.

Buy the Nectar Premier Hybrid if…

You share a bed with a restless partner: Motion isolation on the Saatva Classic is still good, but the Nectar Premier Hybrid just edges it, making it ideal for those sharing their bed with a restless partner.

You want a little more sinkage: The Nectar contours around the body a little more than the Saatva, giving sleepers a little more obvious cushioning around pressure points.

You want free returns: It won’t cost you anything to return the Nectar – Saatva charge $99 for the privilege.
