It seems Ghost Rider won't be joining the MCU anytime soon – not played by Ryan Gosling, at least.
"Some discussions have been had. It's a complicated situation," Gosling told the Happy Sad Confused podcast when asked if he'd met with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. As for the fact that his partner Eva Mendes starred in the 2007 Ghost Rider movie, he said, "I'm just happy one of us got to do it."
Back in 2022, Gosling told MTV news that he was keen to play the bounty hunter, but it seems he hasn't gotten any closer to the role in the four years since. But, Horowitz pressed, why Ghostrider? "Just a feeling," Gosling replied, deadpan.
Nicolas Cage played Johnny Blaze, AKA Ghost Rider in the 2007 movie. He's a motorcycle stuntman who sold his soul to the demon Mephisto in an attempt to save his dying father. Mendes played news reporter Roxanne Simpson, Johnny's girlfriend. The movie holds a score of 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, but a sequel still followed in 2012: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. That film landed to an even lower score of 18%.
Gosling may not be playing Johnny Blaze, but he's got another sci-fi movie under his belt: Project Hail Mary. Directed by Beyond the Spider-Verse writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, he stars as Ryland Grace, a scientist sent on a mission to a distant star to save the Earth from our dying sun.
"Very few people can give you the range that he can give you in this movie," Miller recently told GamesRadar+. "He makes you laugh, he makes you cry, sometimes in the same scene. You are with him in every moment, even when he's not saying a word."
