Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey says their 3-0 win against the West of Scotland League Premier Division basement side Bonnyton Thistle atoned for their 4-1 horror show against Hurlford United the previous weekend.
A debut strike by Liam Coogans, an own-goal and a Keirin Coleman clincher saw Glens take the points at Hamish B Allan Stadium.
And he was delighted with the win over Bonnyton that moved them back up to ninth in the table.
“It was a good bounce-back result,” said Harvey, “It became a massive game after the defeat the week before. I told the players they had let themselves down really badly last week in 45 minutes.
“It’s only 45 minutes since I came back from Christmas, but it was a massive 45 minutes when they were really poor and let themselves down.
“We had to show Bonnyton the same respect as you do when you’re playing Auchinleck or Pollok. The boys went out, worked really hard and basically got their just desserts – in fact we could have won by more.
“It was a good performance overall. Weather conditions, with the wind and that, made it really difficult to play any great football, but once we got on top of that and managed to get the ball down and forward as quickly as we could, we seemed to do all right.”
Harvey warned his side will now need to be on top form to take points from high-flying Kilwinning Rangers on Saturday.
He added: “It will be a massive game. Kilwinning are a top team, they’re not in the top four for no reason.
“It will be a really difficult place to go, but we’ll go there and certainly make a game of it – put it that way. It will not be easy for them, but it won’t be easy for us.
“At one point at the start of the season we were 4-1 down at half-time against them and wondering what the hell was going to happen in the second half.
“But we went out, it was 4-4 and at the end of the game Kilwinning were holding on and asking the referee how long to go.
“It’s the old story of the game of two halves – they absolutely murdered us in the first half, we absolutely murdered them in the second half.”
Rutherglen’s clash at Kilwinning will kick-off at 2pm.
