Ruth Langsford shushes Loose Women audience as fragile Coleen struggles through start of the show

The audience of Loose Women were hushed by host Ruth Langsford on Tuesday, March 21, after it was revealed that Coleen Nolan, who appeared on the panel alongside Janet Street-Porter and Dame Kelly Holmes, was reaping the consequences after enjoying a number of rum and coke cocktails the previous evening.

Before the show got under way - during which stories such as Rupert Murdoch's new engagement, Madonna's new house rules and more were discussed - Ruth welcomed the studio audience to the show before shushing them in a bid to help Coleen's hangover.

She said: "Oh, thank you. Very nice of you to applause, but can you just shush as Coleen's a little fragile." "It's all a bit loud," Coleen added, before Ruth continued: "It's not for us, but if I'd have had five rum and cokes last night, I might be feeling a bit fragile." "I apologise, I have got a hangover," she said before cheekily adding: "It was well worth it." For the latest celebrity and TV news sign up to our newsletter here

As Coleen sipped coyly into her cuppa, Kelly said: "Tell us more", as Janet Street-Porter commented: "She started off perky... now slumped." "She's drooping rapidly now," Ruth chimed in as she concluded the introduction to the show.

Later in the show viewers watched on as the panel discussed what they thought of the news that Rupert Murdoch was getting married once again - he has been married four times before.

As Coleen was asked whether she would look to get married again (after two divorces), she explained: "Im a bit too hungover for that question, really. Do you know what? I loved being married and I never got married thinking if it didn't work out I'd get divorced. You do feel different, and it was great. But after my second divorce, I thought 'I can't do that again'. The divorce part is horrible."

She added: "Knowing me, because I'm absolutely, ridiculously romantic, and I don't know why I do it but I keep looking at wedding dresses online. I haven't even got anyone yet. I'm going to be Miss Haversham!".

Janet Street-Porter added a racy tidbit about one of her four weddings which she had in Las Vegas, where she was given a goodie bag that had laundry detergent to 'wash knickers'.

After asking Kelly Holmes whether she'd ever thought about marriage - to which she'd said no - Janet told the panel: "I never really thought about it. I just did it anyway! Including the one in Las Vegas. I really didn't think about it, it was over when I had to carry a bag you got in the little Elvis chapel. You get a carrier bag of stuff like detergent to wash your knickers in." This anecdote had the audience and panellists in stitches, as Kelly said: "So I won't come to you for advice then, Janet?"

Loose Women airs on ITV1 at 12:30pm on weekdays.
