RSAC Scottish Rally makes switch from Lockerbie to Dalbeattie

The RSAC Scottish Rally is moving to Dalbeattie.

For more than a decade, the event has been based in and around Lockerbie.

However, the sale of the town’s lorry park, which acted as a service area, meant organises had to find a new location.

And they have opted for Dalbeattie, with Scottish Rally Championship crews set to visit on July 22.

The rally will be based at Jas P Wilson and many of the stages will be used on the event for the first time, with forests at Dalbeattie, Kinharvie and Ae forming the backbone of the event.

Clerk of the course, Jonathan Lord, said: “We are delighted to begin a new chapter in the 91-year history of the Scottish Rally with our move to Dalbeattie. This will allow us to use some stages which haven’t featured for several years.

“The move to Dalbeattie wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiastic support of Iain Wilson of Jas P Wilson, whose premises will provide a first class location for scrutineering, service and rally HQ.

“We acknowledge the continued support of Dumfries and Galloway Council, who are backing the rally for the 26th time, and we are pleased to bring the event to a different part of the region and one which has produced many fine drivers and co-drivers.”

The rally is one of the council’s seven signature events and people in Dalbeattie will be able to enjoy the finish celebrations and awards presentations in the town centre.

Local councillor and chairman of the council’s communities committee, Ian Blake, said: “The Scottish Rally is sure to thrive and increase its audience by moving to Dalbeattie, a town that loves motorsports.

“After the difficult years of the pandemic I’m confident this stellar much loved event will go from strength to strength during the remainder of this decade.”
