Romelu Lukaku marks Inter Milan return with goal in 10-0 win after Chelsea exit

Romelu Lukaku got off to a dream start back at Inter Milan having found the net in the Serie A giants’ 10-0 win during pre-season.

The Chelsea striker made his return back to the Italian giants earlier this summer having penned a season-long loan deal with the club just 12 months after becoming the Blues’ record signing. Having been back with the club for a matter of weeks now, the Belgian has been playing a full part in Inter’s pre-season preparations as they attempt to regain their Serie A crown next term - AC Milan having claimed the title under Stefano Pioli.

The club’s preparations took a step up on Saturday with a friendly against Italian minnows FC Milanese - the clash ending in an emphatic 10-0 victory.

Lukaku more than played his role in the win having been selected in the side that played for the first 45 minutes. After creating a few chances, he then teed up Joaquin Correa for his strike. Whilst the understanding that he regularly displayed alongside Lautaro Martinez during the club’s successful Serie A title tilt was then on display once more with the two combining extremely well.

It did not take very long at all for Lukaku to get himself on the scoresheet as he chopped in and out of his defender before rolling home with a cool, left-footed finish. Martinez scored once more, with further goals coming from Alessandro Fontanarosa, Mattia Sangalli, Andrea Pinamonti, Valentino Lazaro and Dennis Curatolo.

Lukaku will certainly hope that the goals continue flowing for him throughout pre-season and beyond as he attempts to recover from an indifferent season with Chelsea. Following his club record move, he netted just 15 goals in all competitions and was never quite in favour with Thomas Tuchel.

He has of course displayed his goalscoring prowess with Inter in the past. After arriving from Manchester United having fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he scored 64 goals in 95 games before quitting the club for Stamford Bridge.

He revealed that the prospect of potentially helping the club to another Serie A crown was a motivating factor behind his desire to return to the club. Speaking to Inter Milan’s official website, he said: “The fans, first of all, my team-mates [were reasons], and also because I wanted to work with the coach. We were in contact over the course of the season. I think he's doing a great job here. I want to help the team and do well for this club.”

He continued: “I think about the team more than myself. I want Inter to win and I'll give everything in training and in games to achieve that.”
