Robert Snodgrass Hearts transfer 'imminent' as Robbie Neilson set to land experienced free agent

Robert Snodgrass is edging closer to a return to domestic Scottish football as Hearts close in on his signature.

Motherwell had been an interested suitor after the veteran playmaker left Luton Town at the end of last year. Jambos boss Robbie Neilson has been persistent in his declarations that he is looking at the free agency market to bolster his squad for their Premiership and Europa Conference League campaigns, with various reports now claiming a deal is close for 34-year-old Snodgrass, who started his career at Livingston.

According to the Daily Record, a deal is 'imminent' following talks with Neilson and sporting director Joe Savage in recent days. Hearts have already signed Scotland international Zander Clark after the goalkeeper opted to end his association with St Johnstone at the end of last season and now Snodgrass could be their latest signing. They face Istanbul Basaksehir on Thursday as group stage football comes to Gorgie.

Battles with Latvian outfit RFS and Italian heavyweights Fiorentina also await Hearts in UEFA's newest club competition.

It's been a tough spell for Neilson's men heading into as they acclimatise to playing every few days, losing to both Kilmarnock and Livingston last week.

They've also been dealing with a slate of injuries, Liam Boyce and Kye Rowles two players recently ruled out longer term.
