Road sealed off after two cars crash on The Strand

Traffic is queuing after two cars crashed in Liverpool city centre.

Police were called to New Quay, on The Strand in Liverpool City Centre on Monday, July 10, following reports of a crash between two black cars. One of the vehicles is stopped in the middle of the three-lane carriageway with severe damage to its front.

A second car, a black BMW, appears to have crashed through a traffic light and ended up stranded over a pavement. The car has major damage and a trail of debris has been left in the road.

A number of ambulances were at the scene but it is unclear if anybody was injured in the crash.

Police have closed the road and are diverting traffic up Chapel Street to re-join the road at Leeds Street. It's unclear how long the road will be closed for.

The ECHO has approached Merseyside Police for more information.
