Rio Ferdinand Arsenal plea for Mikel Arteta to sign £54m Premier League star is fully justified

Mikel Arteta should have listened closely to the advice given to him by Rio Ferdinand, as he suggested a striker Arsenal should sign in the summer.

Ferdinand claimed that the Gunners should look to try and sign the Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus who is reportedly available for a transfer.

Arsenal will desperately need to sign a striker in the summer and Jesus would certainly be an excellent acquisition if he was able to be signed.

Arteta and the Brazilian international have worked together before, which adds another incentive to secure his signature and improve the forward line ahead of next season.

Speaking about the Brazilian, Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel : “They [City] need to discuss internally and see what they want to do.

Because with a striker joining Man City in the summer, I’m not sure that the position of Jesus will be so clear.” He added.

“If I was Arsenal, I would go and buy Jesus.”

The Gunners are in desperate need for a striker and will need to sign two forwards ahead of next season if Arteta wants strength in depth.

This is because of the likely departure of Alexandre Lacazette, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

If the Frenchman does depart from the club then the Gunners could be left with just one recognised striker in the form of Folarin Balogun, as Eddie Nketiah’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Jesus would certainly be an excellent addition for Arsenal, and his contract is set to expire at the end of next season, which means he could be available for a cut-price transfer.

He can play across any position in attack, making his versatility an attractive trait for the Gunners.

The Brazilian has struggled to break into Guardiola’s starting eleven, and with the Manchester side likely to strengthen their strikeforce in the summer, he could fall further down the pecking order, giving the Citizens another reason to sanction a sale.

The 24-year-old has scored 88 goals in 222 games for Manchester City, showing that he has a clear knack for goals in English football, and he has also scored 18 goals in 54 international games for Brazil.

Arteta also knows all about the Brazilian having worked with him for three years when he was a coach at Manchester City.

Ferdinand was correct with his comments, as Jesus would certainly be a good signing for the Gunners, and it is a deal that Edu should look to get done.
