'Right now' - Ally McCoist makes Wilfried Zaha Liverpool transfer point

Ally McCoist believes Wilfried Zaha would get into the Liverpool team on current form amid speculation over a move in the next 12 months.

Zaha's contract at Palace runs out in 2023, with no signs of talks over an extension leading to reports that the winger could angle for a move away as he eyes Champions League football. The Reds, along with Arsenal and Chelsea, are said to be monitoring the situation at Selhurst Park, with Patrick Vieira's side potentially looking to sell in January rather than losing their talisman on a free come summer.

Liverpool have endured a torrid start to their Premier League campaign and are undoubtedly feeling the loss of Sadio Mane - sold to Bayern Munich in the summer. Injuries to the likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have by no means helped, but Jurgen Klopp's side have been notably lacking in a direct goal threat down the left.

That problem could well encourage Klopp to push for Zaha, whose five goals and one assist have proved pivotal to Palace's campaign thus far. And former Rangers striker McCoist believes the 29-year-old primed for a move to the top-level, adding that he would get into the Liverpool lineup on current form.

“When everyone is playing well, he might not get in it," McCoist told talkSPORT Breakfast. "But right now you ask some of the Liverpool fans after some of the performances at Forest and some of the performances at home against Leeds, there are some fans that would take him on his current performances.

“I take your point that if everyone is playing well, but that’s not how it operates.”

McCoist added: “Wilfried Zaha has absolutely earned his stripes and does not owe anybody anything. He owes himself the opportunity to go and make the right decision.”
