Ridvan Yilmaz situation at Rangers labelled 'strange' as transfer option floated amid exit link

Alan Hutton has labelled the Ridvan Yilmaz situation at Rangers as 'strange'.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst shelled out big money to bring the left-back in from Besiktas during the summer but he's hardly had a sniff of action with Borna Barisic preferred in the starting side to date. The 21-year-old - who is a full Turkish international - has only made one start in the Premier Sports Cup win over Queen of the South with two appearances off the bench in the Premiership and one in Champions League qualifying.

Former Ibrox defender and pundit Hutton is hopeful supporters will get the chance to see him shine over the coming weeks with a hectic fixture schedule - but believes he could look to leave on loan in January if the lack of action he is experiencing now continues. Reports abroad claimed Galatasaray had an interest in making a deal happen.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said; “It is a strange situation.

“I think Rangers put out a lot of money in transfer fees to bring him in. I think it has taken him a little bit longer to settle.

“We are going to see more of him hopefully in the coming weeks, there are a lot of games coming up so there is opportunity for him to shine.

“I think if it goes the way it is going and Barisic is going to be a regular starter then he might look to go out on loan.

“But something in the back of my mind tells me that Rangers have paid all this money for him they are going to try and get him in the team.

“Hopefully in the upcoming weeks we will see a little bit more of him and he can prove his worth to Rangers.“
