'Ridiculous' - BBC pundit takes brutal swipe at Nottingham Forest and Jesse Lingard

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Garth Crooks has questioned Jesse Lingard's commitment after signing for Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal.

The 29-year-old agreed to a one season deal upon becoming a free agent this summer, following his contract expiration at Manchester United. But it seems that Crooks is not totally convinced by his move.

In his BBC Sport column following the defeat at Newcastle, he said: "His [Fabian Schar] first-half tackle on Jesse Lingard in the Newcastle box was enough to suggest the Swiss defender was in no mood to give the Nottingham Forest player one inch.

"Precisely what Lingard is doing at Forest I am not entirely sure, but a one-year deal on a free transfer? What sort of commitment is that? Does Lingard think we are all stupid?

"Take the deal and split if the team goes down - is that the plan? I'm not sure who looks more ridiculous. Lingard for signing or Forest for accepting the terms."

Lingard made his debut at St James' Park last weekend, as the Reds fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Magpies.
