Residents of Alderley unit complex where body was found report hearing heated arguments

Residents of an Alderley unit complex in Brisbane's northern suburbs are on edge after a body was discovered in a storage area under the building.

They claim to have witnessed heated arguments and people loitering around the area.

Human remains were found by cleaners who were contracted by the department of housing at the Alderley Avenue property on Wednesday morning.

Police said the body was partially buried, tightly wrapped, and covered in clothing and bedding, hidden in a void behind a brick wall.

It is believed the body had been there for some months.

Investigators spent the night at the crime scene and scientific officers were conducting forensic examinations on Thursday morning.

Police are still trying to confirm the person's identity and cause of death and are hopeful forensic testing will provide some clues.

Resident claims he heard 'somebody making threats'

Resident Allan Batzloff said he recently heard a heated argument between two men at the complex.

"I did hear a few things … somebody making threats to somebody a few months ago," Mr Batzloff said.

"Two guys — a heat-of-the-moment argument.

"I don't know what personal relationship it was, but a guy said, "I'm going to get my revenge on you, I'm going to get you', that sort of thing."

Mr Batzloff said it was "a bit unsettling".

"I didn't think anything of it at the time until yesterday.

"Now the police are asking me to clarify a bit more about what happened," he said.

Mr Batzloff also said he had witnessed some strange activity around the complex.

"We've had a few odd trouble-makers, we do get a lot of strangers who come off the street," he said.

"We've had people breaking into cars.

"You have the local pub over there, I've heard fights a few times and altercations.

"I've seen the police [at the complex] many, many times."

Queensland police would not confirm if they had previously been called to the complex due to "privacy reasons".

Another resident said the situation was 'overwhelming'

Resident, Scott Morton, said people who lived in the complex were "alarmed" and shaken up.

"Bit shocked, I don't know what to think," Mr Morton said.

"It's a bit overwhelming."

"I came home and there were police everywhere, I thought, 'Far out, what's happened here'.

"I couldn't sleep."

Amanda Early cleans regularly at the complex — though she didn't clean in the area where the body was found — and said she was shocked by the news.

"I haven't heard anything [suspicious], pretty normal suburb," Ms Early said.

"I would not want to have been one of those ladies or gentlemen who found the body.

"It would be devastating.

"Couldn't imagine what they're going through."

Detectives are seeking information from previous tenants and an investigation centre has been set up at the Hendra police station.
